Throughout the years, Moves & Grooves, Inc. grew little by little into the organization it is today. It began its humble beginnings in 2002, as a simple after-school program for at-risk youth in North Nashville. In 2004, the organization hosted its first Summer Enrichment Camp on the historical campus of Fisk University. In 2010, the Ladies of Purpose mentoring program was launched for high school sophomores where eight young women explored college, careers and community service through an intensive six-week summer workshop.
During the opening of the Moves & Grooves dance studio last year, the group began its first music and strings program in collaboration with Nashville Violins. Summer 2012, Moves & Grooves served over 40 youth during a seven-week summer camp at Tennessee State University. Students actively participated in dance, nutrition and fitness education four hours each day and burned over 5,000 calories per week. In fall 2012, you can expect even more collaborations as Moves & Grooves finds innovative ways to connect with the Nashville community to provide new, quality learning experiences for youth and children. |
