Tennessee is a hotbed of music – but most mindsets turn to
quickly to twangy guitars, banjos and women with price tags hanging
from their hats. But there is a new, up and coming scene that’s
just far enough outside of Nashville that indie rock bands can spread
their artistic wings and create a sound that merges the eclectic
and the mainstream.
Murfreesboro, TN is home to The Roosevelts, a staple of the local
scene since 1998, and touring nationally full time since 2002. While
the band had never really set out to get signed to a label, in 2004
they were approached by Word of Mouth Records and joining their
family seemed like a natural progression.
So that fall, the band traveled to Buffalo, NY to record their full
length debut - It’s So Hard to Make A Sound. With producer
Kevin Bruchert (Mending Point) behind the board, recording became
a process of experimenting with sounds and progressions. “I
really consider myself more of a music guy than a lyric guy,”
explains Noah Curtis, songwriter and vocalist for the group. “The
recording of the record just happened so easily, it’s hard
to explain.”
Lyrically, It's So Hard To Make A Sound is a coming of age record.
It’s songs about growing up. About getting married. About
finding your place. The transition between youth and responsibility.
But not in a way that shuns these changes – these are songs
about the journey, and the choices you make along the way.
“It’s So Hard to Make A Sound,” but the sounds
that have been made promise to make you question your motives, make
you consider what’s important in your life and make you become
an instant fan of The Roosevelts.
